After the game, Sherron Collins was glad that he’d made the trip. “It was crazy in there, the atmosphere was wonderful to see,” Collins told Phog.net. “I really had a good trip, it was fun.” With his recruitment long ago wrapped up, Collins was interested to get a first hand look at Kansas. He’s kept up with the Jayhawks on television, but was glad to see the team from a little closer vantage point. After watching from directly behind the Kansas bench, Collins has little doubt he’ll fit right in next year. “I can’t wait to get out there with them,” said Collins of his future teammates. “I think that I’ll fit in good, perfect almost. We’ll get it right in practice and we’ll all play well together.” Back at home, Collins is enjoying a strong senior season at Crane. He’s putting up huge numbers, is leading his team to victories and is a serious candidate to make the McDonald’s All-American game. He’s ready for the state playoffs and he’s also appreciative of how those in his hometown have respected his decision to leave Illinois after he chose Kansas during a high profile recruitment. “We just beat the number two team and we’ve got all of our guys back from injury. We’re ready to make that run to State,” said Collins. “People say a little bit that I should have gone to Illinois. But, I felt that Kansas was the best place for me and people have supported me. It hasn’t been bad.” As his college career grows closer, Collins sees a difference in the way that he’s approaching the game. He’s always been able to score, but he’s looking to get others more involved. “I’ve been getting into the lane, I’m seeing the floor better and I’m learning to get my teammates more involved,” said Collins. “My jump shot (needs more work). I need to shoot a lot of jumpers and get in the gym as much as possible to work on them.” With only a few months remaining before Collins again leaves Chicago for Lawrence, Collins wants Kansas fans to know that they can expect more excitement when he arrives for good. “Tell them to expect to be sitting on the tip of their seats and to be ready to get up,” said Collins when asked what Kansas fans can look forward to next year. “I’m going to try to give them something to cheer about.” |
