PRESEASON OUTLOOK:
The Jayhawks are really loaded this year, returning their starting lineup and the top seven  scorers from 2006, while adding two McDonald’s All-Americans.

With so much talent on board, Coach Self will again have a hard time picking a starting unit.  Junior Russell Robinson will likely be the point guard, even though incoming freshman Sherron Collins is highly touted.  Sophomore Mario Chalmers will get some time at the point, but will mostly spend his time at shooting guard.

Sophomore Brandon Rush, last years leading scorer and rebounder, will switch back-and-forth from shooting guard and small forward.  And Julian Wright will spend time at the two forward spots.

In the frontcourt, the trio of 6’11 Sasha Kaun, 6’10 C. J. Giles, and 6’9 Darnell Jackson will be joined by Darrell Arthur, a heralded 6’9 freshman.

Backups in the backcourt will be junior Rodrick Stewart, Junior Jeremy Case, and Freshman Brady Morningstar. And, soph Matt Kleinmann will play mop-up in the frountcourt.

My bet for the starting five at the beginning of the year will be Kaun, Wright, Rush, Chalmers, and Robinson, with  Jackson, Arthur and Collins completing an eight-man rotation.

KU is picked in the top five by most of the pre-season mags, and should be a shoo-in for the Big 12 championship.
