Robertson Successful Overseas, by Gary Bedore, 6/5/02

Former KU guard Ryan Robertson, regional marketing director for The Hartford in suburban St. Louis, was a speaker at Saturday night’s banquet.  His assigned topic: the decade of the ’90s.

“I talked to coach Williams on Monday. I felt like one of you guys (media) trying to keep up with him taking notes,” Robertson said of Williams, who, like Self, speaks rapidly when something’s on his mind.

“Coach Williams’ biggest thing ... he said his highlight of his 15 years was the 100th-year celebration of Kansas basketball. That helped create the family atmosphere he always wanted.

“When he talked about individual players and teams, he got emotional,” Robertson added. “He said, ‘It (KU) is my second favorite university (behind his alma mater and current school North Carolina).”
